I can’t tell you how many times I’ve browsed eBay for personal purchases and was left feeling frustrated. As a seller, it’s important to provide sufficient information for your potential buyer to make an informed purchasing decision. Selling a dress? Be sure to provide the size, or at least the garment measurements. And, please don’t photograph your garment on the floor. It doesn’t take much effort to lay out a pretty bedspread or a large piece of white cardboard and photograph your item. Selling a ring? Again, be sure to indicate the size.
Show your potential buyers that you are detail-oriented and meticulous about selling your products. This doesn’t mean write a novel! Trust me, no one wants to slog though all that verbiage. What it means is give the basic details of your product so that your buyer can make an informed decision. Nothing makes me hit the back button faster than a one line description…if that, and sometimes with the comment “The pictures are my item description.” You cannot rely on pictures to tell the buyer the entire story. On mobile devices the details are lost and if there’s a snag on your garment or a crack in that vintage opal ring you’re selling, the buyer will be very disappointed and will most likely initiate a return. These days, eBay sides with the buyer, so it’s in your best interest as a seller to assure a smooth transaction without buyer disappointment.
