posted an update to the previous alert regarding the Gymboree Computer Theft letter:
GYMBOREE COMPUTER THEFT UPDATE
I received two more emails this week from people who had also received letters from Gymboree telling them that computers were stolen from Headquarters and their information may have been on one of them.
So, I got in touch with Gymboree yesterday and received an email back from the Senior Director of Compensation and Benefits. Here is what she said:
"Gymboree did experience a theft of 3 computers from the Home Office and letters were sent to the current and former employees whose information may have been contained in one or more of the computers.
The computers did not contain any information pertaining to Gymboree customers. Therefore, there is no credit card information, bank account information or personal information of customers in the stolen computers."
So there you go. This was not related to the Gymboree credit card or any other customer information. If you are a current or former employee and received a letter, please follow the directions in the letter. If you still have questions, the letter also included a contact that I can refer you to (for her privacy, I don't want to publish her information in the newsletter though). Just drop me a line and I'll forward that to you.

Rachel Shubin of "Gymboree News & Gossip Column"
(http://www.gymboreenews.com) has
alerted her readers to a new credit card scam that is being delivered to
mailboxes! This scam was related to the Gymboree Visa, but it could happen
with most any credit card. Take a look and be sure to call the number on
the back of your credit card---not in the letter--should you receive
one:
"One more thing to keep an eye out for. I got a report
from a subscriber this week that she had received what looked like a letter from
Gymboree (came on a Gymboree envelope and was printed on Gymboree letterhead)
saying that three laptops had been stolen from Gymboree headquarters and that
her personal information including her SSN had been comprimised.
It then went on to say that she should contact the three credit reporting agencies and make sure her credit is ok and provided phone numbers to do that. The letter was very convincing and the only tipoff that it might be a scam was that the address the letter went to was her address before she signed up for the Gymboree Visa. After calling Gymboree and discussing it with the customer service rep., it turned out that the phone numbers listed for the credit reporting agencies were bad and the letter was a scam. If you get something that sounds like this, call Gymboree first. "
