eBay Offering More Support for Digitally Delivered Goods
by
SSB
on December 14, 2005 05:22PM (AKST)
eBay will be making changes
to selling procedures for digitally delivered goods (such as songs, eBooks,
etc.). If you sell eBooks, you will especially want to read this
announcement carefully from eBay's Product Marketing Team:
Hi, I'm Mara
Holian with eBay's Product Marketing team. As more buyers and sellers have
become interested in digitally delivered goods (such as songs, eBooks, etc.),
we've recognized that we need to improve the way these items are bought and sold
on eBay. In the next few days we're going to make a few changes to our site to
better accommodate these types of items.
If you aren't familiar with the
term, a digital item is a product sold in the form of a computer file that a
buyer can access online or have delivered electronically via email. For example,
the product could be an MP3 file of an original song that you wrote and
recorded, or an original fitness video that you made. It's important to note
that these are both examples of items you created yourself. Strict copyright
laws prohibit selling digital items for content that you didn't create yourself
or for which you are not a copyright owner. You can learn more about what is and
is not allowed by reading our Frequently Asked Questions. http://pages.ebay.com/choosingformats/digitalitems/faqs/?ssPageName=CMDV:AB
Here are the highlights of the site changes we're making
to support digital items:
"List as a Digital Item" option in the Sell
Your Item form - Selecting this option when you start listing lets us know
you're selling a digital item, so you won't have to fill out sections that don't
apply (such as "Shipping"). You'll also see a "Digital Item Delivery" field in
SYI, where you can provide delivery information to your buyers (such as how to
access the file once they've completed their purchase).
Search filter
for digital items in certain categories - Buyers in categories that are more
likely to feature digital items (such as Movies and Books) will be able to
filter their results to see just the digital items that meet their search
criteria.
Digital Information Box on the item page - On listings for
digital items, a new information area will help buyers identify digital items,
confirm the file type and learn about any system requirements they will need.
For tips on buying or selling digital items, please visit our Digital
Delivered Goods information page
[http://pages.ebay.com/choosingformats/digitalitems/?ssPageName=CMDV:AB] and our
Frequently Asked Questions
[http://pages.ebay.com/choosingformats/digitalitems/faqs/?ssPageName=CMDV:AB].
We'll also be holding a workshop on January 9th, where you can learn more about
buying and selling digital items, as well as about the copyright laws that
govern them. Stay tuned for more details about the workshop in the coming
weeks.
Sincerely,
Mara Holian eBay Product

eBay Will Be Offering "eBay Marketplace Research" Subscriptions
by
SSB
on November 10, 2005 08:40PM (AKST)
eBay is jumping on the marketplace research bandwagon, and
has announced a product that will be competitive with Sellathon, Terapeak, and
other popular auction research tools. "eBay Marketplace Research" will be
available in 3 levels, the most comprehensive costing $24.99 a month.
There's also a $9.99 level that will give you the basics, and a $2.99 Fast Pass
that will give you 2 days of access to the service. Each level offers
varying information as well as research results that go back in the eBay sales
history for either 60 or 90 days.
Hi, this is John Bodine with Product Marketing. We know that sellers need
information to run their businesses efficiently -- for instance, the price an
item is likely to go for on eBay, or what types of items buyers are searching
for. Likewise, buyers want to know the price they can expect to pay for an item
they're considering purchasing. We're happy to announce that soon you'll be able
to get this kind of information based on activity on eBay's sites with our
newest service, eBay Marketplace Research. eBay Marketplace Research
[http://pages.ebay.com/marketplace_research/index.html?ssPageName=CMDV:AB],
launching this week, will help you understand overall listing, selling, and
searching trends across the eBay site, and give you the information you need to
become a more informed buyer or seller. Some of the features of eBay
Marketplace Research include: -the ability to analyze key information
like the average sale prices, average start prices, and average Buy It Now
prices of items -the ability to explore the top keyword searches on eBay by
category and by related keywords charts to help you see buying and selling
trends in the eBay marketplace -access to completed items data going back up
to 90 days eBay Marketplace Research is a subscription-based service,
offered in three levels -- Fast Pass, Basic, and Pro. Choose the level that best
meets your research needs on eBay. To learn more, please visit the eBay
Marketplace Research page
[http://pages.ebay.com/marketplace_research/index.html?ssPageName=CMDV:AB]. I
hope you can also join the Product Marketing team for an online workshop on eBay
Marketplace Research
[http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000119181&ssPageName=CMDV:AB],
scheduled for November 17th at 11:00 am PT. We've also created a new discussion
board for eBay Marketplace Research for you to share your thoughts on this new
service. http://forums.ebay.com/db1/forum.jspa?forumID=1000000020&ssPageName=CMDV:ABSincerely,
John Bodine, Product Marketing Manager

Now Available - Purchase and Print International Shipping Labels Through PayPal
by
SSB
on November 10, 2005 07:50PM (AKST)
You will now be able to purchase international shipping
through PayPal or My eBay! And you can print pre-filled customs forms,
too All the bugs might not be worked out yet, but it appears that not all
international shipping classes are available. 3 different address to
Canada would only give the option of Global Express, Global Priority, and
Airmail Parcel Post. Especially for clothing, Airmail Letter Post is
a popular choice, and doesn't appear to be available. Heres the official
announcement: Hi...this is Leigh Goldstein again
from eBay's Shipping team. You may recall that back in June at eBay Live! 2005,
Bill Cobb, President of eBay North America, and John E. Potter, Postmaster
General of the U.S. Postal Service®, jointly announced that later this year we
would offer the ability to print International Shipping Labels on eBay. I'm
pleased to let you know that this new feature is now available - just in time
for the holiday season! We and the folks at the U.S. Postal Service and UPS are
excited about this change, which should make selling globally much easier.
Now you can purchase and print both U.S. Postal Service and UPS
international shipping labels and customs forms directly from My eBay or PayPal,
just like you can with domestic labels. Printing international shipping labels
at home with eBay will save you a trip to the Post OfficeT or UPS drop-off
location. Imagine - no standing in long lines during the holiday
rush!
And, with pre-filled buyer and seller addresses, you can be assured
that international addresses are correctly populated. Even your customs forms
will be pre-filled automatically and printable right from your home printer as
part of the label printing process when using services from the U.S. Postal
Service.
Learn more about printing International Shipping Labels by
viewing our information page

and reviewing our Frequently Asked Questions

We hope these new features contribute to your success on eBay!

Leigh Goldstein Senior Manager, Shipping Product

Important eBay Information About Cross-Promoting With Other Sellers
by
SSB
on October 13, 2005 05:57PM (AKDT)
Read this announcement carefully. You'll need to
decide if it's profitable for your business to have your competition's listings
right next to yours on your "Watch Reminder" and "Non-Winning Bidder"
emails. You'll also get exposure on other buyer's emails if you decide to
participate. Here's the announcement:
To increase the
exposure of current listings and improve the finding experience for buyers, we
will soon display similar active listings from other sellers on closed item
pages. As they do today, buyers will first see other items from the seller who
listed the original closed item in the "See More Great Items From This Seller"
section. In addition, buyers will be shown a list of similar items from other
sellers. This should be especially helpful for buyers who get to one of these
closed item pages via a search engine.
Once launched, sellers who have
not already opted out of having other sellers' items displayed on Watch Reminder
and Non-Winning Bidder emails will be defaulted into this program. This will
ensure your items receive maximum exposure on other sellers' closed item pages
and that buyers who land on closed listings see relevant active listings.
Sellers will also have the ability to opt out of this program entirely,
which means your closed item pages will not display similar items from other
sellers, nor will your active listings appear on other sellers' closed items.
Sellers can also choose to only allow the display of other sellers' items to any
of the following types of buyers:
-Buyers who bid on, but didn't win, the
item. -Buyers who did not actually bid on the item. -Both of the above.
You will be able to control these settings from the "Promoting
Similar Items on eBay Pages and Emails" section of your Preferences in My eBay.

the specifics:How the Design of Your Listing Can Increase

Was, an eBay Certified Service Provider, as she explains how shoppers perceive
the appearance of your listings and how to make them more compelling.

Trading Assistant services to customers beyond the
